I'm the biggest fan of korean dramas. I've been watching it since gradeschool together with my family. We would buy pirated cds (i know) and binge watch all day. *good times* There's something addictive in korean dramas. Probably because the actors are really good, or maybe because the storyline is interesting and relatable, or maybe because they know when and what music to play in a certain scene, or maybe all of the above. One thing is for sure, korean dramas know how to make their viewers cry! I personally prefer films that make me so emotional, that make me feel things, either because I don't have much drama going on in my life and I crave for it or there's too much drama going on and these films could be a good reason to just cry. Sometimes, I would cry out of sympathy with the protagonist, but tears can't seem to stop. It's like my eyes are crying on its own. However, every time I finish a good show, it made me feel so great on the inside. I feel lighter and less sad after all the bawling I made. I would say that a really good cry is needed after being braving the long day. So, if you are looking for a reason to cry, looking for a next show to watch, or just starting with all these korean drama shows, here are the 5 k-dramas that made me cry and will probably make you cry too!
1. My Ahjussi/ My Mister (2018) This show made me uncomfortable right from the start. I involves violence and infidelity but it ended on a good note. It's about the struggle of 3 brothers who are in their 40s and a woman in her 20s. To be honest, all of the characters here have their own burdens and are very conflicted. While it suggests violence and infidelity, it also promotes love, respect, and optimism. It's the warmest show I've watched in a while. It has the best lines and literally everything is quotable. This made me cry so hard! Really really hard! It's too much for my heart. I'm warning you, it's really sad and will make you cry but it's worth your time. 2. Reply 1988 (2015) I always say that this is my favorite show ever, it's because it's true. It's about a group of friends in the late 80s. It warmly depicts the life in Korea during that time. It introduces the lives of the main characters while incorporating the significant events during the 80s, which in result, gives us a feeling of time traveling. Everything seems so real, from the way they talk, dress, and they even recreate the old towns. It's full of happiness, love, and sorrow at the same time. Just what life really is. It's a perfect family drama, where anyone in the family can relate. I swear, this drama is gold! 3. Go Back Couple (2017) Crying at first episode??? This is what this drama all about. It's a story of a married couple who are trapped in an unhealthy relationship because of a sad incident. Every day, they feel themselves drawing away with each other that made them to end their marriage. But magic happens. They woke up one day and they found themselve in their 20s-selves once again. To change their destiny? To make different choices? Who knows why. But if they choose make a difference, one innocent child will pay the cost– their child. This show only has 12 episodes. It may be short but it felt like it's been years. Also, get your tissues ready beforehand! 4. Love on a Rooftop (2015) This is the longest show among the 5. This has 101 episodes with 35 mins. running time. Yes it's that long. It was a daily show. I remember watching it on kbs youtube channel every morning before going to school. It's been my routine and it actually completes my mornings. Mainly, the story is about Seung Hye, if I'm not mistaken, she's a nurse by profession but her heart belongs to coffee. She wants to be a coffee barista but she can't because as the eldest, she's expected to bring fortune in their family, and being nurse earns so much more than being a barista. Besides that, her grandmother was a known tea maker and coffee is prohibited in their home. But that's not where the drama lies, it's when the other siblings found out that Seung Hye's adopted. Everything suddenly became even harder for her to bear. It's a really good watch! 5. My Father is Strange (2017) Last but definitely not the least. It's about this ordinary family. Father, mother, and their 4 grown up childrens. Everything seems normal until they found out the truth about their father. It's fun to watch. It'll make you laugh, cry, and fall in love. Also a good family show. There you have it! I can guarantee that all of this is a good watch. I hope you give it a cry, oops, I mean, try! Click here for my Japanese Movie Recommendations.
